Mississippi Institute Pursues Rural Agenda for ICF

Gallardo.jpgThe Intelligent Community Institute of the Mississippi State University Extension Service (ICIM) has had an active summer season. Led by Professor Roberto Gallardo, a faculty member at the Center for Technology Outreach, the Institute has led digital literacy classes in the small city of Quitman, where a public-private venture with C-Spire has developed a fiber-to-the-premise network.

The Institute has also created a broadband locator map for the state, which combines data from the US National Broadband Map with original research to show Mississippi rural residents where they can find service. Research from the Institute has appeared in Daily Yonder, and additional research papers are undergoing peer review before publication. For more information, contact Roberto Gallardo at [email protected].
