Fredericton’s Knowledge Industry: A Mid-Year Update on a National Contributor

In my January commentary, I shared the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 vision: to Recognize, Support, and Elevate Fredericton’s Knowledge Economy as Fredericton’s Knowledge Industry. Now, as we find ourselves halfway through the year it’s time to reflect on the progress we’ve made and the momentum we’re building amongst this era of uncertainty we have all been navigating together.

To Recap

The Knowledge Industry is the foundation of all other sectors, powering technology, trade, finance, healthcare, education and the arts through intellectual capital, innovation and human creativity and critical thought. It encompasses fields that produce, distribute and apply knowledge, such as education, R&D, IT, media and professional services. As global partners and competitors invest aggressively -€500 million from the European Commission and a further €100 million from France- Canada must act decisively to remain competitive.

Thanks to past successes, existing infrastructure, and future-focused alignment, Fredericton is ready to lead. In a rapidly evolving world, the Knowledge Industry’s reliance on intellectual labour and innovation driven growth makes it a high value, strategic asset and Fredericton is embracing this opportunity with purpose and pride.
