Maddie Mitton never dreamed that she’d be serving coffee and meals to strangers.

“I had a lot of problems with insecurity so looking people in the eye was really hard,” Mitton said on Monday.

Mitton lives with a host of mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder.

MONCTON – Having worked with many entrepreneurs as an employee at Idea Action, Mylène Després saw the need to help them with tasks like creating a budget to translating a social media post into French. So, she launched La Station to do just that.

“My target market is, a lot of them are ‘solo-preneurs’ and very lean teams. They’re used to doing it all themselves,” she said.

“I’m not there for entrepreneurs to be dependent on my services, but really, so that they’re better equipped to go forward. Whether we like it or not, hiring someone can be strenuous on a business. So I’m basically there to help alleviate some of that.”

A new 100,000-square-foot expansion to Organigram’s Moncton production facility officially opened on Tuesday.

Organigram currently has 135,000 square feet of production space, allowing it to grow 22 million grams of marijuana a year. That's one of the 50 strains currently being produced at the Moncton facility.

It took just over a year to complete phase two. Phase three could be finished by May, and phases four and five will be closer to 2020.

MONCTON, Jan. 22, 2018 /CNW/ - The Moncton Internet Exchange (IX) announced today that its peering and interconnection services are active and available for the Internet networking community. This marks the first Internet Exchange to be in existence in the province of New Brunswick, ushering in a new era of localized, high-bandwidth, low-latency access at a lower cost than traditional transit.

Many restaurants across the province are choosing to pull salads with romaine lettuce from their menus, in light of a E. coli outbreak linked to the leafy greens, but one Moncton bistro isn't worried about its caesar salad.

The Public Health Agency of Canada said there have been five cases of E. coli infections in New Brunswick when it announced a national outbreak in mid-December.

Health Canada has confirmed 41 E. coli infections across the country, and the agency has linked the illness to romaine lettuce, but it still hasn't found the specific supplier as the source of the outbreak.

MONCTON – Club Auto, a customer contact centre in the auto sector, plans to hire as many as 150 people in its new Moncton office over the next four years, with the help of payroll rebates from the provincial government.

Club Auto has 35 employees in the office that opened in October, and CEO Sean Gasby says there will be 75 by early 2018.

Having long dispatched its provincial rival in Saint John, figures show Moncton has now chased down the region's two largest cities to command the most commercial and industrial development money in Atlantic Canada.

"To think that in recent quarters we've been challenging or surpassing Halifax, I think that's pretty impressive company to be keeping," said Kevin Silliker, Moncton's director of economic development.

Never during his five years teaching technology at Harrison Trimble High School in Moncton had Adam Binet seen his students so eager to work on a project as they were with the Blue Kits.

These starter kits teach students about cybersecurity and the internet of things, a concept that describes how more and more everyday objects are connected to the internet and enabled to send and receive data.

"This cutting edge technology gave [students] a different hands-on experience," said Binet.

Social enterprise development in the Hub City received a boost Tuesday with the announcement of an investment fund and community accelerator.

Social enterprises are businesses created to further a social purpose, or solve a social problem, in a financially sustainable way. Social enterprises have been gaining ground across North America in recent years, including in New Brunswick.

The TD bank is expanding its presence in New Brunswick with the announcement of a new business services centre in Moncton.

The centre, which is scheduled to open in 2019, promises up to 575 jobs within six years.
