Taiwan's 'Digital Minister' holds democratic workshop in NYC
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan's notorious 'Digital Minister' of the Executive Yuan, Audrey Tang (唐鳳), held the first ever "vTaiwan Open Consultation & Participation Officers Training" in New York City June 11 and June 12.
Tang's lecture on digital governance at last year's Personal Democracy Forum (PDF) in New York City received a very warm welcome. The PDF organizers felt that Taiwan's experience in particular is worth learning from and spent over a year arranging the visit of Tang and seven other government officials.

Mercer, the world's largest human resources consulting firm, yesterday released it's 20th annual "Quality of Living Ranking," with Vienna taking the top spot for the ninth year in a row, followed by Zurich (2), Auckland (3), Munich (4), Vancouver (5), Dusseldorf (6), Frankfurt (7), Geneva (8), Copenhagen (9) and Basel (10) rounding out the top ten.

Google Taiwan announced a plan on Monday to launch a project that is set to establish a new research and development unit in Taiwan dedicated to artificial intelligence. The project will be recruiting local talent to meet its ambitious AI projects, but the number of the new positions to be created has yet to be announced.

Founded 45 years ago in Taiwan, Giant Manufacturing has built bikes that have cycled terrain the world over. But before gaining its own name recognition, Giant got its start making orders for others, including Schwinn, one of the U.S.’s most well-known brands.
“At that time in Taiwan, nobody will ever think of making their own brand, if you are doing [exporting],” Bonnie Tu, who became Giant’s chairperson in January, told NBC News during a sit-down interview at Giant headquarters in Taichung, Taiwan. “I think most Taiwanese think you just make products for American or European companies.”
