City of Hamilton smashes its own records in 2018 construction boom

Hamilton is celebrating its biggest construction year in the city’s history.

“On Sept. 11, 2018, the City of Hamilton has, for the very first time, hit the billion dollar mark as early as September,” said Hamilton chief building official Ed VanderWindt.

“We have also almost reached our all-time 12-month record of construction value of $1,499,627,394 set by year’s end 2012.”

According to Glen Norton, City of Hamilton director of economic development, this represents the largest increase by percentage in the ICI (industrial, commercial, institutional) sector, which is up by 40 per cent or $100 million over the previous three-year average.
