In this episode of the Intelligence Test, ICF Co-Founder Robert Bell has a conversation with Raimundo Rodulfo, CIO of Coral Gables, and Rob McCann, President of the Hamilton Technology Centre.
Guy Kawasaki, an early employee of Apple, once wrote that “it’s better to be lucky than smart.” That applies not only to people, but to the places they live. Not every city or region can be lucky. So, around the world, cities have invested in becoming smart. Others are making investments with the goal of becoming intelligent. What’s the difference? This edition of the Intelligence Test podcast from ICF explores how a very smart city, Coral Gables in Florida USA, has turned technology into a platform for economic and cultural transformation. Chief Innovation Officer Raimundo Rodulfo joins tech entrepreneur Rob McCann, who audited the city for its Intelligent Community Certification, to reveal the unexpected sources of the city’s success.
Located just west of the City of Miami and with a population slightly under 50,000, Coral Gables has started a series of Smart City programs in recent years and is already reaping the rewards. With its Smart Districts Expansion project, the city has implemented a robust and resilient technology infrastructure, through multiple innovation districts providing connectivity, visibility control and automation of city services. Their city theme, “A World Class City with a Hometown Feel” embodies the high quality of life their citizens get both from their technological innovations and more traditional quality of life considerations like walkability and weather. https://www.intelligentcommunity.org/coral_gables_florida
